I've recently had a lot of questions about what yarns we might have for sale (possibly because of the new podcast!)  I'll be completely honest - not much right now, for lots of different reason.  And if you're interested in that conversation, I'm going to discuss it in detail on the next episode of the My Wool Mitten podcast, out sometime this December.

We're so thankful for the interest and support of our farm products, it really does mean so much!  So here you have it, a listing of all the farm yarns that we have at this time.  You may recognize some of them as earlier runs - they are skeins that I may have saved back for myself but realize that I'm not going to get them all knit up.  All perfectly good yarns.  We have a smoke free home, one indoor/outdoor cat but of course she isn't allowed with the yarn!  All yarn is washed gently in a fragrance free wash when it comes back from the mill, dried in fresh air and stored in a wooden cupboard with cedar and lavender alongside on the shelves.  All that said, here are the offerings and ordering details are at the end of the post.

DUNBONNET ~

"Dunbonnet" - moorit Corriedale-Bond cross from sheep Jessie, Jinger and Leoch (see Leoch's picture below). 3 ply, worsted spun sport weight, 240-250 yards; $20 per skein plus shipping.  ~ S O L D  O U T ~ of this Outlander themed, rich chestnut colored yarn.

HAVRE ~

"Havre" is the Swedish word for "oats", so named by my friend Caroline.  I really want to make all the things from this - sweaters, hats, mittens, shawls! This beautiful soft and warm yarn is a 50/50 blend of our white Corriedale wool and fawn Alpaca from my friend and neighbors farm.  2-ply, sport weight, 240-250 yards; $20 per skein plus shipping.  Only 4 skeins still available ~ SOLD OUT ~

LINEAGE ~

"Lineage" is our latest offering, and is so named as a nod to the lineage of the sheep who produced the fleece to make it.  We're very much about bloodlines and history in our flock of Corriedales and "Image" and her daughter "Naomi" are descendants of one of our first sheep, "Violet" - a perennial favorite and prolific fiber producer.  This is a warm grey, 2-ply worsted weight.  It was spun at a different mill than our other yarns and there are occasional slubs as well as overspun spaces in the skeins, giving it more of a handspun feel.  Look closely at the photo above (click on the image to make it larger) and you will see examples of this.  Please be aware of the uneven spin before purchasing this yarn, and if that's unacceptable consider a different yarn for your project.  About 240-250 yards each, $20 per skein plus shipping.  Only 3 skeins available, a very limited run (and I'm keeping some for myself).  ~ SOLD OUT ~

Finally, I have a sampler set of mini skeins for you - just in case you can't decide or if you'd just like to try some Corriedale and Corriedale blend yarns.  This set of five natural colored mini skeins are 50 yards each, so a total of 250 yards to work with.  It includes - from left to right - "Wisewoman" (white); "Havre" (fawn); "Lord John Grey" (silver); "Gravel Road At Dark" (charcoal) and "Murmurations" (natural black).  Please note that some of these yarns are no longer available in full size skeins.  I have only TWO of these sets available and then they're gone.  Cost is $22.50 and FREE SHIPPING within the United States!  (I will ship outside the States, but can't cover the shipping costs for that)  I'll also pay for shipping if you would like to purchase a full sized skein or two to go with the set of mini skeins ;)  ~ SOLD OUT ~

Warm White Corriedale Roving

~ SOLD OUT ~

Nearly 10 pounds of white wool from "Hannah" the Corriedale sheep went off to Zeilingers Wool Mill, and came back as 7 pounds of lovely roving, ready to be spun!  Fully raised and produced right here in the Middle of the Mitten, Michigan's lower peninsula.

Hannah's fleece is warm white with a vintage look and feel.  She has a long staple length with the traditional Corriedale crimp and I think that is still evident in the roving.  It's plush and comforting to spin, with the notable Corriedale softness and durability.  I have approximately 5 pounds available for $28 per pound (plus shipping).  If you would be interested in all 5 pounds (share with a friend!) price will be reduced to $25 per pound (plus shipping)

Yarn Update

IAn update to the yarns that are currently available for purchase ~

From left to right, they are :

"Lord John Grey", actually much more silvery grey than the photo shows, 80/20 blend of Corriedale and Alpaca, 3 ply, woolen spun, heavy fingering weight, 250 yards.

It's All About The Yarns ~

Mill spun, farm yarns for sale!  Grown, raised and processed all right here in Michigan.  Not just single breed (Corriedale) yarns, but single sheep yarns in most cases.  You can get to know the sheep who contributed their fleece to make your yarn!

From left to right in the box above are "A Breath of Snow and Ashes"; "Dunbonnet"; "Gravel Road at Dark" and "Murmurations" (natural black, a wool alpaca blend).  Sample boxes with an assortment of skinny skeins of these yarns are available if you can't chose just one color.

Corriedale Yarns

A small assortment of millspun Corriedale yarns from our farm, available in limited quantities ~ SOLD OUT (but I'll leave this post here for reference)

From top to bottom ~  GRIZZLY; JANE GRAY and SHADOWS (Shadows has sold out).  It might be a little hard to see in the picture, but there are differences in the greys.  I'll describe them below....

GRIZZLY (top) is a chunky 100% Corriedale yarn with lots of character.  It knits up quickly with size 8 or larger needles, perfect for warm and cozy hats and mittens.  It also shows cables well.  There is the slightly suggestion of brown in this yarn and it overdyes beautifully!  Skeins are about 4 ounces, 170 yards and are $12 per skein

JANE GRAY (middle) is closer to worsted weight (you might compare it to a Cascade 220 type yarn).  More Corriedale from our farm flock, including a ewe named Jane!  Very soft and squishy, and cables really pop with this yarn.  Skeins are approximately 210 yards, $16 per skein.

We do have a few cones of this available, approximately 420 yards per cone if you would be interested.  The yarn is unwashed, you'll need to skein it off and wash it before you use it.  Cones are $28.

IRIE (left) is something a little different.  This was actually meant to be a roving made from very dark brown/black Corriedale and a multi color sparkle but the mill spun it into yarn!  It's 2-ply, about a sport weight with approximately 232 yards per skein.  I've started a shawl with it and its really pretty!  $18 per skein


We have a few skeins of Ainsley's COFFEE BEAN BROWN, 2-ply fingering weight yarn in 500 yard hanks.  I haven't tried making socks with it, but I have been working on a sweater carrying the yarn doubled (in progress, below)

Corriedale Roving For Sale

Below I have listed our 2011 Corriedale blend rovings for sale, produced with wool from our own farm flock of sheep combined with other Michigan fibers - alpaca, kid mohair, angora bunny. Some may include pygora, silk and even sparkly bits of angelina. All were processed at Zeilingers Wool Mill, also here in Michigan.

MIDNIGHT DANCES ~

Nearly black (charcoal shot with silver), very fine lambswool blended with black-grey kid mohair and black alpaca highlighted with dyed turquoise and navy silk plus jewel-toned sparkly angelina. I was disappointed to find a lot of noil occurred in the processing of this fiber, but then delighted in the rustic tweedy texture of the yarn (another sample photo below)! I am currently making a shawl out of this - it is gorgeous!

PASTURE LAND ~

In very early spring, after the snow has melted away, the first bits of new pasture growth begins to peek through the over wintered, now brown grasses. This roving is from our perennial favorite ewe Violet. Her taupe colored wool is blended with a pale red kid mohair fleece, angora bunny, undyed silk and more wool dyed in shades of warm greens (think olive and sage). Even though my inspiration for this was early spring, I think of it as a "warm" blend. About three pounds, $28 per pound.

There is a sizable amount of the bunny fiber in this, and unfortunately some of the bunny and some of the silk nepped in processing. I was quite unhappy until I, along with several other "test spinners" gave the roving a spin. It is lovely and squishy soft (you can see a a skein of yarn and a test swatch in the photo at the top of this post)! Here is another picture and I think you can see some of the texture in the lighter areas ~

This makes a particulary grand 3-ply yarn and I don't think you'll be disappointed if you give it a try!

MICHIGAN RED CEDAR ~

Oh my goodness, this one is so deep and rich and warm! And also so difficult to photograph properly..it is much, much darker than the picture seems here, though the yarn sample in the photo at the top of this post is closer to being correct. This blend includes warm cinnamon wool from our ewe Collette and dark cocoa brown wool from her daughter, Elizabeth. Add to that rich mahogany colored Alpaca, highlight it with more dyed wool, silk and mohair and then make it sparkle and shine with bright colors of angelina glitz here and there - this is a perfect reflection of a midwestern autumn forest. Both Collette and Elizabeth have very dense, highly crimped wool so this roving is dense. I think you will love it as much as I do! About four pounds available, $28 per pound (discount that to $25 per pound if you would like all four pounds)

DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT ~

Inspired by the beauty of a spring dawn, this roving includes natural pale grey Corriedale wool blended with angora bunny and highlighted with dyed Corriedale and pygora in flashes of purple, pinks and violet blue. This roving is soooo soft! I don't have a picture of a sample yarn for this one, but it is nice Two pounds available at $28 per pound.

CORRIEDALE COMBED TOP ~

Finally, I also have a few pounds of combed top available. This is 100% Corriedale wool from here at Serenity Farms, using only our best white sheep. If you have only ever spun commercial top and found it to be slick, hard and lifeless you are in for a real trip with this farm produced product! Still full of life and crimp and warmth...what a joy! I would be happy to send a sample for you to try. $30 per pound or try 8 ounces for $16 (plus shipping)
